A 19 year old was arrested for climbing up on to the roof of the building from which the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Maldives operates.
The Saudi Embassy is currently run out of the MTCC Sawmill next to the Hulhumale' Ferry Terminal. Previously, the Foreign Ministry and Arabiya School were run there.
The youth was arrested on charges on entering a prohibited area. The judge placed him in remand on custody for five days.
As per the remand order, Police submitted CCTV footage showing him entering the Saudi Embassy.
At the remand hearing, the youth stated that he was not aware the building housed the Saudi Embassy, adding he had not seen any signage there indicating this. However, a Saudi flag is hoisted at the building.
The youth claimed that he had climbed on to the roof of the building to take a photo as he has seen photos taken there by other people.
He said that he had gotten off the roof in ten minutes as he had realized it was not permitted as people are ordered down when they go up there.
The youth, who has no prior criminal record, apologized for his act.
