Dr. Mohamed Faisal has become the first Maldivian doctor to complete
specialized training in Neonatology, focusing on the health issues faced by
premature babies and infants less than a month old.
Dr. Faisal is the first Maldivian Neonatologist, a medical specialist
dedicated to providing advanced care for premature infants and newborns with
various congenital diseases and medical conditions.
Neonatologists work primarily in the Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit (NICU), providing specialized treatment for the most
vulnerable and complex cases in newborns. Currently, hospitals in the Maldives
rely on expatriate Neonatologists.
Dr. Faisal began his specialization training in 2022 after the government
opened an opportunity while he was working at the Kulhudhuffushi Regional
Hospital. He completed his two-year specialization in Neonatology at the University
of Colombo in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Faisal has now rejoined the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital to begin
serving in his specialized capacity. With 20 years of experience as a
practicing doctor, Dr. Faisal has previously worked at ADK Hospital and
various islands across the Maldives, in addition to Kulhudhuffushi.
His previous specialization as a Pediatrician was completed in Nepal.
Dr. Faisal and his spouse are both doctors currently working at the Kulhudhuffushi
Regional Hospital.
