68 year old man rescued after boat sinks

A boat travelling from Funadhoo to Feevah in Shaviyani Atoll sank today after taking on water. Police rescued a 68 year old man after he was thrown into the sea when the boat sank. 

Police said that they had received reports of the incident at around 11:50am today. A Police speedboat immediately responded. Officers on the speedboat found the man in the sea near Feevah and rescued him. 

The man was rescued and taken to Feevah. Police said that he is unharmed. 

The man, originally from Sh. Noomaraa, reportedly travels alone in the small boat. Reports indicate that the the boat had started taking on water at the stern and had sunk. 

Police urged seafarers traveling in the region to exercise caution as some items that had been on the boat are drifting in the area.
