Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen stated last night that the police's blue uniform is a symbol of security and safety for Maldivians, and requested nothing be done that may lessen the dignity of the uniform.

He said this while giving a speech at the 41st Police Initial Training Course completion ceremony.

CP Naveen said that the "blue uniform" would remind police of their daily duty, oath, determination and assigned responsibility.

"This uniform is a symbol of citizens' safety and security. A symbol of fairness and equality. This blue uniform places trust in Maldivian police. And so, I advise all you officers to not do anything that may tarnish the dignity of this blue uniform," said Naveen.

CP Naveen said that this nation places its trust on brave, kind, reliable, respectful, determined and fair police officers. He went on to say that along with times of difficult decisions and pressures of work will come tests of thinking and determination. And that even at those times, they should remember that they are not alone and bear in mind the long history of the police, said Naveen.

"And so, I call for assurance of work to be done with integrity and bravery. I appeal to you officers to always remember to provide safety and security to citizens, as is your purpose," said the CP.

As per CP Naveen, if these are paid attention to, it is assured that the police can provide the due safety and security to citizens without discrimination.

Naveen said that the police graduates will face difficult but responsible situations, along with sacrifices. He went on to say that nevertheless, the officers will be coming out to do honorable work for the sake of the citizens safety and protection.

"For that, we are proud of all you officers," said the CP.

While gesturing to the 185 graduates last night, CP Naveen said that citizens will have certain expectations of the police, with them embarking on an honorable journey to turn that expectation to trust from today onwards.

For the first time, a female police officer had the honor of receiving the Best All-Round Student at the 41st Police Initial Training Course completion ceremony, with CP Naveen highlighting this and stating that this is the first time a female officer has done so in police training.

The Best All-Round Student was won by HA. Hoarafushi's Imsha Abdul Latheef.

CP Naveen also highlighted that five female officers had received podium placements across the course.

During the ceremony, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan stated last night that police have to enter a dangerous environment in order to solve drug, gang and expatriate issues, with similar levels of corruption to contend with as well.

Minister Ihusan said that various parties will give and hand out money, along with promises of being able to rise up the ranks, but advised officers to refrain from accepting such offers.

"...People will make promises of living joyful lives and of travel. But you should not forget your training and your determination," said Minister Ihusaan.

As per the minister, police institutions have "absolute zero tolerance" towards such acts.
