Maldives, China commit to closer relations

During the meeting, President Muizzu and Vice Chairman Donming discussed avenues of further strengthening collaboration between the two countries in various areas.

Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's congress (NPC) of China Wang Donming paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu today. 

During the meeting, President Muizzu and Vice Chairman Donming discussed avenues of further strengthening collaboration between the two countries in various areas. 

President Muizzu expressed gratitude for China's continued support towards Maldives, which has significantly contributed to economic and social development. The President asserted that Maldives is committed to further enhancing relations with China across multiple sectors, according to the President's Office. 

In a statement issued today, the President's Office stated that discussions during the meeting centered on exploring new avenues of collaboration and strengthening existing partnerships. Key areas highlighted for cooperation include housing and infrastructure, fisheries and agriculture, tourism, connectivity, information technology, and trade. 

Maldives and China both recognized the steady pace at which existing projects are proceeding. 

Vice Chairman Dongming emphasized the friendly ties between Maldives and China, adding that it was further elevated following President Muizzu's official visits to China. 

Both sides closed the meeting by pledging to continue strengthening Maldives-China relations for mutual benefit.
