Fishermen in Dhuvaafaru begin receiving fuel at STO rate

Fishermen in Raa Atoll Dhuvaafaru will now be able to purchase fuel at STO rates, fulfilling a pledge by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to provide subsidized fuel on at least one island in every atoll.

The modular fuel station operated by STO subsidiary FSM was inaugurated by the President during his visit to Dhuvaafaru for the official Fishermen’s Day celebrations, scheduled for tonight.

FSM said the station will serve both fishermen and the local community, ensuring easy access to fuel. President Muizzu said the initiative aims to maintain STO pricing while creating a competitive market in the region.

Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam added last week that at least one island in each atoll will have access to fuel at STO rates by March 2026.
