President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed departed this morning on a one-day visit to Raa atoll Dhuvaafaru, to attend this year’s official Fishermen’s Day celebrations.
The official Fishermen’s Day ceremony is scheduled to be held in Dhuvaafaru tonight. However, the island has been hosting special activities for the past five days, including various competitions and a forum to gather the views of fishermen.
During today’s visit, President Muizzu will inaugurate several development projects and sign agreements for new initiatives in Dhuvaafaru.
Projects scheduled for inauguration today include:
- Dhuvaafaru Harbour Expansion Project
- Police Station Construction Project
- Renewable Energy Project
- Construction of a new building for Dhuvaafaru Health Centre Hospital
- Outdoor volleyball court
- Operational work of the Waste Management Centre
- Construction of Dhanaal
In addition, several key services will be launched today, including the opening of an ATM by Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB), a petrol shed by STO, and the commencement of RTL bus services in Dhuvaafaru.
President Muizzu will also sign agreements for multiple new projects, including:
- Construction of water and sewerage systems for reclaimed land in Dhuvaafaru
- Second phase of road construction in the island
- Construction of a sports complex in Dhuvaafaru
President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha will also observe activities held in Dhuvaafaru as part of the Fishermen’s Day celebrations.
