Former Dhiggaru constituency MP Ikram Hassam put forth an accusation last night, stating that Ali Azim, former MP and currently competing for the MDP ticket for Mayor of Male', is not loyal to MDP and that he had attempted to oust former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail and bring down MDP's government during his time as MDP's PG leader in the 19th Parliament.

As per MP Ikram, during Adam Azim's campaigning activities last night in Hulhumale', MDP members currently face the question of sincerity, trust and courage regarding both candidates.

Ikram highlighted that with MDP having split down the middle, there has not been enough time to forget that Ali Azim left MDP to join The Democrats.

Ikram also said that instead of working fairly as MDP's PG leader, Ali Azim worked to oust Fayyaz from the party by acquiring member signatures.

"And so, when it comes to both these candidates, there is no question as to where you should put your mark down on," said Ikram.

As per Ikram, after his actions, Ali Azim returned to MDP and to this day, has not asked for forgiveness from party members.

Ikram stated that instead, despite Adam Azim having lost the opportunity to lead MDP and other difficulties, he did not lose heart, won the by-elections and claimed the seat of Mayor of Male'.

And so, Ikram said that if Azim were to attain a five year term, "the entirety of Male' would be changed".

Adam Azim is fulfilling his role as Mayor of Maldives under MDP's ticket after having won January 2024's by-elections by a large margin.

During last night's campaign rally at Hulhumale', Adam Azim said that because he has done so much work during his time, some people have said that it appears as if he has held his position for five years.
