Mayor of Male' Adam Azim stated last night that he does not want to win the upcoming Local Council Election by "defaming anyone".

He said this during MDP's primary campaign rally held at Hulhumale' to seek Male' mayor's ticket for the upcoming Local Council Election on 4th April 2026.

Adam Azim came out in defense of his position, with him giving an indirect response to candidate Ali Azim at the MDP primary, stating that he will win the election with a respectful campaign.

We are working as a team to not give any seats to anyone else. We are working so that MDP may win all seats.

"I do not acknowledge winning elections for my supporters by defaming or speaking negatively of someone. I acknowledge facing problems and solving them, speaking on the solutions and making the lives of citizens better in light of the issues after the election has been won. This is what we acknowledge," said current MDP Mayor of Male' Adam Azim.

He said as such due to the verbal and personal attacks during primary candidate Ali Azim's campaign ceremonies.

Adam Azim said that when he visits various houses, people are waiting outside to welcome him long before his arrival and that that is the spirit of MDP. Azim also said that it is the determination of MDP, and that they are looking forward to electing him.

As per Azim, if MDP members were of the same determination, the current ruling party will not be able to win against them.

"With God's mercy and your support, this election will hopefully be won with hard work, hard work, hard work and courage," said Azim.

He went on to say that MDP will not fall behind a single inch, with an inch being gained daily.

During last night's rally, Adam Azim said that it is clear that he is competing against issues.

"I competed against the flooding of the streets in Male'. We have hopefully found success in that regard. You are the ones who operate my call center operations and campaign activities. MDP's experienced campaign team members. They are always making calls," said Adam Azim.

As per Azim, Maldives and Male' will only see good days the day votes are fully given to MDP. Adam Azim said that things are currently the way they are because of this.

He went on to say that there are joyful days ahead if candidates for other constituencies alongside him are elected by a large margin.

"We are working as a team to not give any seats to anyone else. We are working so that the MDP may win all seats. I give my complete assurance that I will work and give my time to MDP candidates," said Adam Azim.

While reminding everyone of the date, Adam Azim stated that he is fulfilling his role as Mayor after winning a by-election, with him being in his current position only for two and a half years. However, he stated that because he has done so much work during his time, some people have said that it seems like he has held his position for five years.

During last night's rally, Adam Azim had highlighted what he has done for Male' during his time as Mayor for two and a half years.
