The government of China has today donated emergent assistant goods worth USD 2.8 million to Maldives in response to last year's major fire incident at the Housing Ministry.
The Housing Ministry building near the harbour cafe's on Ameenee Magu was destroyed in a major fire incident on December 16 last year. In addition to the Housing Ministry, the fire left the Construction Ministry in the same building and Environment Ministry in the adjacent Green Building damaged beyond use.
Due to this, the three ministries were transferred to Dharubaaruge, where they have been operating out of since then.
The aid package handed over by the government of China today includes various resources essential for offices and furniture, according to the Finance Ministry.
The aid agreement was signed by Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Kong Xianhua and Maldives' Finance Minister Moosa Zameer at a ceremony held at the Finance Ministry today.
