Man injured in power station fire passes away

Ahmed Azmeel, 43, who worked as a supervisor at STELCO, passed away while undergoing treatment at Bangkok Hospital, Thailand.

The STELCO staff who got electrocuted and suffered burn injuries in the November 26 fire at the old Hulhumale' power station has succumbed to his injuries today.

Ahmed Azmeel, 43, who worked as a supervisor at STELCO, passed away while undergoing treatment at Bangkok Hospital, Thailand. 

Azmeel suffered severe burn injuries in a fire that broke out while he was working on resolving an issue with a switch gear at the old power station in Hulhumale'. 

After first being treated at Hulhumale' Hospital, he was transferred to ADK Hospital. He was then taken to Thailand for further treatment on November 30. 

It has been reported that STELCO covered all medical expenses for Azmeel. This includes his transfer to Thailand on the Air Ambulance. STELCO has previously said that they would closely monitor his treatment, and provide all possible assistance through his family. 

STELCO has also stated that they will look into the cause of the incident and take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in future.
