The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) announced tonight that it is treating as a priority issue the unusually high water bills reported by residents in some of the Amaan Udhares towers in Hulhumalé Phase II.
The issue came to light after several residents of the Amaan Udhares flats reported receiving water bills exceeding MVR 7,000 for the past month.
FDC stated that immediately after the matter was brought to its attention, it began working with relevant authorities to "determine the cause" and find a solution. The corporation urged affected residents to share their specific water bill concerns via the FDC tenant portal at portal.fdc.mv or by sending an email to [email protected].
Regarding the billing issue, the Managing Director of Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Abdul Matheen Mohamed, told 'Sun' media that the bills are currently payable by FDC because the water meters are still registered under the corporation's name.
A senior official from FDC explained that when handing over the flat keys, photos are taken of the water and electricity meter readings before the resident moves in.
The FDC official stated: "Therefore, the situation can be assessed very accurately. MWSC teams will be going (to the site) tomorrow morning to investigate the issues and resolve them."
The official added that the information of the flat recipients has already been shared with MWSC, meaning there are no obstacles to transferring the meters to the names of the flat owners.
