Ibrahim Haleem, CEO of the Malé City Group of Hospitals, has been appointed today as the Chairman of the new state-owned company established by the government to resolve the issue of medicine shortages.

The Privatization Board announced that Haleem has been appointed as the Chairman of the company named "State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply."

The company, established on September 9th, has Dr. Shah Mahir, the former Deputy CEO of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), serving as its Managing Director (MD).

Currently, the Board of Directors, including the Chairman and MD, consists of six members. Dr. Shah previously told Mihaaru News that medicine procurement is still being handled by the State Trading Organization(STO) as the transition of operations is underway.

In an interview last October, Dr. Shah estimated that the full transfer of all operations to the new pharmaceutical company would take approximately 3 to 6 months. He stated: "Since it is a very large operation, we cannot switch overnight. Therefore, the services being provided to the public will continue as they are now, without any disruption or difficulty."

As part of this transition, all STO pharmacies operating in inhabited islands will also be transferred under the authority of the new pharmaceutical company.
