President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated that his administration will continue to make decisions in line with the sentiments and expectations of the Maldivian people.
Speaking at a meeting with residents of Henveiru held at Kalaafaanu School Hall last night, President Muizzu said his government “will always stand with the people” and that every major policy decision is informed by public opinion.

The President highlighted that he has been travelling across the country to meet island communities, councils, and institutions to directly hear their concerns.
“I listened to the ideas and discussions of the people's needs. I listened to them and addressed them,” he said.
Muizzu added that his government continues to follow a consultative approach similar to the one he practiced during his tenure as Mayor of Malé City.
Citing recent policy discussions, the President said he believes public support is overwhelmingly in favour of stricter regulations.
“For example, the issue of vape. I am sure that even if a vote were taken in Maldives today, more than 90 percent of the people would support banning vape,” he said.
He added that he has “no doubt” a similar level of public backing exists for proposed reforms, including banning smoking for individuals born on or after 2007 and imposing the death penalty on drug smugglers.

“In each of these things, what we are doing is knowing the feelings and sentiments of the people and doing the best things for the people,” he said.
President Muizzu also noted that public involvement will be central in drafting the upcoming National Development Plan, which will guide the Maldives’ development strategy for the next 20 years.
