New parking zones have been established and opened to the public for vehicles
registered in the Malé region.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) stated that the
four zones established in Hulhumalé Phase 2, a joint initiative between the
Ministry of Transport and HDC, can accommodate a total of 1,200 vehicles.
HDC clarified that these are temporary parking zones
specifically designed for four-wheeled vehicles to alleviate congestion in
Hulhumalé.
At the opening ceremony for the parking zone in front of
Hiyaa Tower 16, Minister of Transport Mohamed Ameen urged the public to utilize
these zones instead of parking on the streets.

Acknowledging that this is a temporary solution,
Minister Ameen revealed that they are working with HDC to construct dedicated
parking buildings in Hulhumalé. He added that the completion of these buildings
will provide a permanent solution to the parking issue.
The opening of these new parking zones comes as the
police have begun efforts to remove vehicles illegally parked across various
areas of Hulhumalé.
