Police officer arrested for assault

A Police officer was arrested, and placed on suspension, for forcing their way into a salon in Male', creating unrest, damaging property and committing assault.

The officer involved in the assault has been identified as Ali Manik, 43, Asaree Villa, S. Hithadhoo. 

Police confirmed that upon arrest for a criminal offence, Ali Manik has been suspended without pay, effective yesterday. The Professional Standards Command will be taking required administrative action in the case, they stated. 

The Criminal Court has placed Ali Manik in remand in custody for five days. 

As per the remand order, Ali Manik collapsed while in the custodial suite. As he was becoming unresponsive, he was taken to the hospital. The remand extension was issued while he was still in hospital. The order requires Ali Manik to be presented in court within 24 hours of being discharged from hospital. 

The court order cites Ali Manik's current address as Police's Iskandhar Building 20. It further states that he had been arrested at the salon where the assault was committed.
