Maldives sets a world snorkeling record with 307 people snorkeling at the same time in the same vicinity.

The record setting attempt was held on Friday at Siyam World with Freedive Maldives and Siyam World in collaboration, and is the record for the most number of people to snorkel at the same time in the same vicinity.

Those who took part were awarded a gold medal from the Guinness Book of World Records.

Freedive Maldives instructor Fahd Faiz said that both Freedive Maldives and Siyam World also set a world record in the presence of Guinness Book of World Records officials on Friday.

Siyam World has become the first Maldivian resort to set a world record, said Fahd.

"In order to set this record, everyone who participated in the same vicinity were to snorkel for one minute without going up for air, with the record for the most number of people to snorkel at the same time in the same vicinity being the first of its kind," said Fahd.

The event named "Snorkel World 300" was held at N. Dhigurah, where five star luxury resort Siyam World is located, with residents from Haa Dhaalu, Noonu and Baa Atoll taking part.

This includes HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, HDh. Naivaadhoo, N. Velidhoo, N. Kendikulhudhoo, some Noonu Atoll resorts, B. Eydhafushi, B. Maalhos and B. Dharavandhoo.

While the event aimed to have 250 participants, a total of 307 people took part.

As per Fahd, Siyam World tourists also took part in the event along with Maldivians.

"The tourists were very happy with the event. They would not know that they would be taking part in a record setting event while on holiday. They were very excited upon getting such an opportunity," said Fahd.

Freedive Maldives has organized two world record attempts in the past. These are the "Neyvaa 1" event held in 2019 for the Ministry of Tourism and Freedive Maldives' own event named "Neyvaa 2" held in 2022.
