Illegally parked vehicles in Hulhumale' begin to be towed

Under article 14(b) of the Road Traffic Act, parking violators face a fine of MVR 750, except in cases where a parking-violation sticker has been issued.

Police have begun removing vehicles that have been left parked for long periods or in violation of regulations across Hulhumale'.

The joint operation, carried out with several government companies, started this morning.

Transport minister Mohamed Ameen, police commissioner Ismail Naveen and Housing Development Corporation managing director Ali Zuhair attended the event.

Minister Ameen said abandoned and illegally parked vehicles had become a significant problem for residents.

Ahead of the operation, police had ordered the removal of vehicles obstructing roads in both Phase I and Phase II of Hulhumale'.

Police also conduct occasional towing operations in Malé City in response to illegal parking.
