President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ahmed Mahloof as the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Japan.
Mahloof officially received his letter of appointment at a ceremony held at the President’s Office this morning.
The President forwarded the nomination to Parliament on November 26. Following review, the Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee submitted its report to the chamber, after which Mahloof was unanimously approved by all 60 MPs present.
Mahloof previously served as Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment under the former Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration. Before joining the cabinet, he had been elected to Parliament multiple times, first to the 17th People's Majlis as a member of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration, and later to the 18th Majlis as a member of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). He subsequently joined the MDP before shifting to the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) during its major rally on November 17.
The post of Maldives’ Ambassador to Japan became vacant following the passing of Hassan Sobir, recipient of the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin on July 28 this year.
