The President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, today expressed his gratitude to the Maldivian people for the assistance provided to the country following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

In a post on X, President Dissanayake thanked President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for his heartfelt message and acknowledged the aid received from the Maldives.

Dissanayake stated that the solidarity shown by the Maldives brought great joy to the people of Sri Lanka and symbolizes the strength of the close relationship between the two nations.

  • The Maldivian Government pledged USD 50,000 and 25,000 cases of canned fish (1.2 million cans).
  • The government's donation of USD 50,000 was handed over to the Sri Lankan government yesterday.
  • The Public Service Media (PSM), in collaboration with several Maldivian media outlets, held a telethon which raised USD 800,352 (MVR 12.3 million). This amount was handed over to the Maldivian Foreign Ministry yesterday.

The 25,000 cases of canned fish were loaded onto 14 containers and the Maldives State Shipping (MSS) vessel departed from Malé on Tuesday, bound for the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo. The vessel is scheduled to dock in Colombo this morning at 11:00 AM.

Amidst this exemplary display of support for the people of Sri Lanka, several prominent Maldivian commercial companies have also donated large sums of money through the Sri Lankan Embassy in the Maldives. Private entities continue to organize additional fundraising programs as well.
