Saudi Arabian business delegation in Maldives to discuss investment, meets with President Muizzu

The Saudi Arabian Business Delegation has come to Maldives to discuss investments, with them having paid a courtesy call to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and discussed ways to strengthen business relations.

This visit comes after and is in regards to President Muizzu's visit to Saudi Arabia earlier this year, where he met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and held discussions.

The President's Office stated that discussions revolved around the relationship between both nations, investment, the economic sector, private businesses, agriculture, fisheries, artificial intelligence and the information technology sector, and the strengthening of relations through said sectors.

As per the President's Office, the delegation will also be participating in the Maldives–Saudi Investment Roundtable that has been scheduled for today, with Maldivian government leaders holding discussions with the delegation.

The President's Office said that President Muizzu spoke during the meeting, highlighting the ongoing aid given to Maldives by the Saudi Arabian government, with it resulting in progress for the island nation. President Muizzu went on to thank the Saudi Arabian government for their aid, said the President's Office.

The President's Office stated that President Muizzu expressed gratitude regarding the Saudi Arabian government's aid in the completion of Velana International Airport, along with the attendance of the distinguished delegation for the opening ceremony of the new terminal.

The Saudi Arabian Embassy in Maldives stated yesterday that arrangements had been made for the delegation to meet with various Maldivian government agencies in expanding investments between both nations.

A forum to discuss Maldivian investment opportunities will also be held.

Saudi Arabia is an important participant in the development of Maldives. The Saudi Fund for Development (SDF) has always provided aid for major Maldivian development projects, such as water, sewage and so on.

Additionally, a loan was also given by the SDF for the Velana International Airport development project. Relations between both nations have become stronger since the current government took office.
