Former Agriculture Minister Dr Aishath Rameela has been appointed as a member of Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM).

The letter of appointment was presented to Rameela by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in a ceremony held at the President's Office this morning.

Rameela took oath of office during the ceremony.

Rameela's appointment as a HRCM member was approved by parliament on October 29.

The position became vacant after HRCM member Mariyam Muna's term came to an end last Sunday.

Rameela began work as a nurse in 1990. She served twice as a State Minister at the Health Ministry. In 2010, she earned a PhD in Social Science from Malaysia.

Rameela, who was appointed as Agriculture Minister at the start of this administration, resigned from the post in December last year to dedicate time for her cancer treatment.
