Parliament has today approved the appointment of former Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof as Maldives Ambassador to Japan.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu forwarded his recommendation of appointing Mahloof to the post to parliament on November 26. The report compiled by the Foreign Relations Committee after review was presented in today's parliament sitting. The subsequent vote saw Mahloof unanimously approved for the post by the 60 MPs in attendance.

Prior to being appointed Youth Minister during the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration, Mahloof served as an MP for multiple terms. Mahloof first got elected to the 17th People's Majlis as a member of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's party Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) during Gayoom's administration. He later got elected for the 18th People's Majlis as a member of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). Mahloof then went on to join MDP.

Mahloof joined ruling People's National Congress (PNC) at the party's major rally held on November 17.
