President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has attended the High-Level Briefing on Private Capital Mobilisation in the UK, hosted by King Charles III.
The Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), founded by King Charles III, organized the briefing, which brought together heads of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), as well as private finance leaders.
The session highlighted ways to accelerate global efforts in mobilising private capital for advancing sustainability goals, the President's Office stated.
In the briefing, the President engaged in discussions on debt-for-climate and debt-for-nature initiatives, alongside efforts to enhance private sector collaboration in green finance, according to the President's Office.
They stated that President Muizzu underscored the pressing financing needs of the Maldives and other Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and presented recommendations to address such challenges.
The President's Office further said that the high-level briefing was attended by several participants from leading financial institutions, such as the President of the World Bank Group Ajay Banga, President of the Asian Development Bank Masato Kanda, President and Chair of the Board of Directors of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Jin Liqun, Group CEO of HSBC Georges Elhedery and Group CEP of Standard Chartered Bill Winters.
The visit provides further avenues for Maldives' advocacy for equitable and effective sustainable finance to support climate resilience, the President's Office stated.
