MNDF, Police donate MVR 3 million to Sri Lanka relief efforts

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service have donated MVR 3 million to Sri Lanka relief efforts at the PSM telethon 'Maldivians with Ceylon'.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service have donated MVR 3 million to Sri Lanka relief efforts at the PSM telethon 'Maldivians with Ceylon'. 

Sri Lanka has been severely affected by Cyclone Ditwah, with the death toll from ensuing floods and landslides now having crossed 355. Another 366 persons are still unaccounted for. 

PSM, in collaboration with several other media outlets, organized the telethon to provide aid for relief efforts in Sri Lanka. 

The largest donation to the cause was made by Maldives Police Service, having contributed MVR 2.4 million. 

The second highest donation came from MNDF, with MVR 1 million donated. 

The telethon has raised a total of MVR 11 million and and USD 43,631.31 so far. These figures show the amounts deposited in the donation accounts. PSM is now counting donations at the fund boxes placed across Male', Vilimale' and Hulhumale'. 

The telethon, commenced at 9am yesterday, was first scheduled to end at 1am last night. It was later extended till 2pm today. 

The government of Maldives has also announced that an official donation of USD 50,000 and 25,000 cases of canned tuna will be sent to Sri Lanka.
