IGMH has begun privately operating their cardiac center.

The cardiac center was being run by India's Meditrina Hospital. The center was given to the hospital on 15th November 2015 during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration for 10 years, with the deadline having been reached on 15th November 2025.

CEO of Male' City Group of Hospitals Ibrahim Haleem has told Mihaaru News that the cardiac center is being operated directly under them. However, he has said that he has thoughts to enlist India's aid for procedures that carry major risks.

The agreement made between IGMH and Meditrina includes clinic services, clinic operations and for Maldivian doctors to gain experience.

When the agreement was signed as the cardiac center opened, IGMH only had at the time Maldives' first cardiologist, Dr. Ali Shafeeg. Since then, three additional doctors have specialized, with a total of four cardiologists working at the center currently.

Haleem previously told Mihaaru News that the current government's thoughts are 'to stand on our own two feet'.

"Our doctors are currently doing basic procedures. There are thoughts that we may have to enlist overseas aid for complex procedures. But that is only a few procedures," said Haleem.

From the day of signing until July 2023, USD 28.7 million (MVR 442 million) was given to Meditrina as expenses. That amount would have increased by now.
