Siblings pass away less than 24 hours apart

Less than a day after the death of Mohamed Ali from Baa atoll Eydhafushi, his younger sister has also passed away.

Mohamed Ali, widely known for building the island’s mosque, now considered a local landmark, passed away yesterday evening in Chennai, India, aged 91.

He is survived by 13 children.

His youngest sister, Aminath Ali, died today at the age of 85. She had lived with complications from a broken leg for eight years.

Although she underwent surgery, she had remained bedridden due to age-related difficulties.

“She wasn’t suffering from any illness. She still recognised people and could differentiate between them,” a family member said.

Aminath, a mother of four, passed away while many relatives were in India for Mohamed’s funeral.
