Fire victim flown to Thailand for further treatment

The man who got electrocuted and injured in the fire incident at the old STELCO powerhouse in Hulhumale' last Wednesday has been taken to Thailand on the Air Ambulance for further treatment.

The man who got electrocuted and injured in the fire incident at the old STELCO powerhouse in Hulhumale' last Wednesday has been taken to Thailand on the Air Ambulance for further treatment. 

The 43 year old STELCO employee is in critical condition after having sustained severe burns in the incident. 

He was first taken to the Hulhumale' Hospital, where he was treated in the Emergency Room. Later the same day, he was transferred to ADK Hospital for further treatment. 

After being treated at ADK Hospital, he was flown to Thailand last night. His treatment, covered by STELCO, has now begun at Bangkok Hospital in Thailand. 

In an earlier statement, STELCO said that the incident occurred while working on resolving an issue with a switch gear at the old power station in Hulhumale'. 

Some areas in Male' and Hulhumale' experienced power interruptions that day due to some feeders switching off, caused by an issue with a medium voltage panel at this powerhouse. 

STELCO said that they are closely monitoring the victim's treatment, and assured that the company will extend all possible assistance in collaboration with his family. STELCO further assured that the cause of the incident will be looked into, and necessary action taken.
