The Sun Siyam Group has decided to donate USD 200,000 to Sri Lanka, which
has suffered extensive damage and flooding due to Cyclone Dheethuva.
According to "Sun Online", operated by the Sun
Siyam Group, the Chairman of the group and Member of Parliament for Dhaalu
Meedhoo constituency, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, met with the Sri Lankan Ambassador, Mohamed
Rizvi Hassen, today and presented a symbolic cheque for the aid.
Out of the pledged USD 200,000, an initial USD 75,000
was handed over today, and the remaining amount will be delivered in the coming
days.
Sun Online reported that starting tomorrow, the Sun
Siyam Group's companies and resorts will also launch efforts to collect
additional aid for the relief efforts.
It was also reported that Siyam called the President of
Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, to offer encouragement and sent a special
letter assuring the Maldivian people stand in solidarity with Sri Lanka.
The affect of Cyclone Ditwah on the eastern coast
of Sri Lanka has caused heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides, resulting in
over 200 deaths and major damage to infrastructure.
A telethon is currently underway in the Maldives to
assist Sri Lanka. By noon today, the total amount raised exceeded MVR 2 million.
Fund boxes for the telethon have been placed in various
areas across Malé, Hulhumalé, and Villingili.

The telethon, which began at 9:00 AM today, is
scheduled to continue until 1:00 AM tonight.
