Crown & Champa Resorts, one of the Maldives’ wealthiest companies, has donated USD 10,001 to support flood relief efforts in Sri Lanka, which has been hit by heavy rains, floods and landslides.
The contribution was made through a telethon launched this morning by Public Service Media (PSM) in partnership with several private media outlets.
By midday, Crown & Champa Resorts had donated the largest single contribution in the event.
Approximately 25 per cent of the company’s workforce are Sri Lankan nationals.

As of this afternoon, the telethon had raised over MVR 1.4 million, including MVR 300,000 from the ruling People’s National Congress parliamentary group, which holds a parliamentary supermajority. Most donations were received within the first five hours of the event.
Fund boxes have been placed across Male’, Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’. PSM Managing Director Abdullah Yameen Rasheed said the boxes will be counted at midnight, although donations will be accepted until 1 am.
Contributions in Maldivian rufiyaa can be deposited to account number 7730000796107, while USD donations can be sent to account number 7730000796106.
The telethon, which began at 9:00 am, will continue until 1:00 am.
