It has come to light that the money laundering allegations against Mohamed Faisal, who resigned from the High Court last week, stem from a bank transfer he received from the legal counsel of a party involved in a case ruled by his wife, Civil Court Judge Aishath Azfa Abdul Ghafoor, on the very day the ruling was issued. Faisal is then alleged to have transferred a portion of these funds to Azfa.

Faisal resigned from his position as a High Court Judge amidst an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) into allegations of corruption and money laundering against him.

A source reported that Judge Azfa ruled on a Civil Court case involving the sale of an apartment belonging to a political figure's sibling, which was sold to a businessman. The sale only covered the bank loan portion, with other creditors remaining unpaid. The case was referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) by the police due to its suspicious nature.

Additionally, Judge Azfa's decision is under investigation by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), with reports indicating she has been absent from work for about a week.

In addition to issues related to the case ruled by Judge Azfa, questions have been raised regarding a month-long trip the couple took to Europe recently. The source who spoke to "Mihaaru News" stated that there is no documentation showing how the tickets for their trip to several European cities were purchased, or how the trip's expenses were covered.

"It is not visible in the bank statements. There is no evidence of payment via credit card. Last year, the couple traveled abroad 14 times, and there are no digital footprints for any of these trips," the source revealed.

The JSC is also currently investigating several matters related to Faisal.

Faisal was approved by the JSC in April for the Chief Judge position at the High Court, but never formally took on the role and stepped down from his administrative duties last week.

Following his resignation, Abdulla Jameel Moosa has temporarily taken over the administration of the High Court.

Faisal became a High Court Judge in July 2018 and had previously served on the JSC, facing criticism for his appointment while still a sitting member.
