Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said today that MDP is in a difficult situation, with the party needing to unite in order to overcome it.

After keeping his distance from MDP due to the political dissatisfaction he held towards former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Nasheed had come back to MDP on 23rd June this year.

While Nasheed has made a comment regarding the party's situation, MDP is still divided as to who should be their Presidential candidate for the 2028 election.

The main reason Fayyaz Ismail resigned as MDP's Chairperson was due to the discomfort that had formed between Nasheed and Solih. After being away from the party for two years, Nasheed going back to MDP caused disagreements as to whether he should be acknowledged.

The two factions in MDP now harbor differences regarding the appointment of an interim Chairperson. Last night's MDP National Council Assembly regarding the appointment was brought to a halt due to a conflict having arisen.

However, Nasheed posted on X stating that he has no doubt MDP will overcome the difficult days they are experiencing.

"A lot of MDP members are saying that unity is what is most important," said Nasheed.

Nasheed also took an example from Motaru Boatuge Gadubadu's (1933), speaking about the Cabinet at the time and their talk of unity.

While referencing the Motaru Boatuge Gadubadu historic incident, Nasheed highlighted Mohamed Ameen's words stating that what is most important is the Cabinet's "unity".

"Harm that befalls one Cabinet member must be experienced by the other members," as was said in Nasheed's post. Nasheed also recalled a line from a poem by Hussain Salahuddin in his X post.
