State media PSM has decided to take the initiative in leading a telethon to aid Sri Lanka as Cyclone Ditwah has been causing damage to the nation.

PSM's telethon will start tomorrow at 9:00am and will end at 1:00am.

PSM has said today that Sri Lanka has had the closest relationship with Maldives since times past, and with Sri Lanka being the closest nation geographically, Maldives must aid Sri Lanka in any way possible whenever they may face hardships of such magnitude.

All of Maldives' media, associations, communities, clubs and offices will have the opportunity to participate in the telethon.

Regarding the damage that has been done to Sri Lanka, the Maldivian government has decided to donate USD 50,000 and 25,000 cases of canned tuna as aid.

Due to Cyclone Ditwah and the subsequent flooding and landslides, the death count has risen to 132, with Sri Lanka having announced a Red Alert status today as the situation has worsened.

The Disaster Management Center has said that due to the worsening weather, more than 15,000 houses have been destroyed, with more than 78,000 people needing to stay in temporary housing.
