Asma Rasheed, MP for Central Maafannu constituency has apologized for the message that was sent to residents of the constituency regarding President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's meeting with Maafannu residents.

Asma had sent the message to Maafannu residents, requesting she be informed if anyone has a question for the President or a message to give to him during the meeting on Thursday at Thaajuddeen School. 

Asma's message has been criticized on social media.

In a press release that was published today, Asma said that the message she had sent was so that those who may not get the opportunity to directly ask questions to the President have their opinions and concerns conveyed to the President.

"If anyone is confused with the message that I had sent out, I deeply apologize," said Asma.

As per sources, President Muizzu had told Asma to apologize concerning her message, due to the negative impressions it had formed within the public regarding the meeting with the President.

In relation to Asma's message, President Muizzu had sent a message to Parliament MP's, which read that the meetings with citizens are held in order for them to directly ask questions to him (the President), to give him any message if they so desire and to give them the opportunity to hand him any letters if they so please.

"As some MP's have sent messages that do not relate to what I have just mentioned, I request messages of that sort be stopped," as was said by the President in his message to a group of MP's.

Spokesperson for the President's Office Heena Waleed posted on X yesterday, stating that even though some individuals have stated that citizens are to inform said parties the questions and their opinions prior to their meeting with the President, it is entirely false. She stated that citizens have been given the opportunity to speak freely at the meetings.
