Twenty-nine illegal businesses run by expatriates were reported within 14 hours of a public appeal issued by the Economic Ministry.
Complaints about expatriates operating unlicensed or unauthorized businesses have been raised repeatedly, including during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s recent neighborhood meetings with residents of Male'. The President has pledged to address residents’ concerns.
Yesterday, the ministry urged the public to report such businesses. Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that within 14 hours of the announcement, 29 complaints had already been filed by various people.
He added that operations by the National Task Force would begin later in the afternoon, and that reported locations would be inspected and action taken in accordance with the law.
