President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that about 15 new mosques will be opened in Male' and other islands before the upcoming month of Ramadan.
In a post on X on occasion of the inauguration of HA Dhihdhoo Islamic Centre today, President Muizzu stated that of the many mosques being built across the Maldives by benefactors, around 15 will be completed and ready for use before Ramadan.
"This includes a mosque in Male' a mosque in Hulhumale' Phase 2. Further, to resolve the inconveniences caused due to the low number of permanent mosques in Hulhumale' Phase 2, the construction of a permanent mosque there will also commence in December," the President said.
As per the calendar, Ramadan will commence on February 18, 2026.
The President highlighted that the completion and inauguration of the HA Dhihdhoo Islamic Centre demonstrates the government's commitment to completing projects.
The President congratulated the people of Dhihdhoo on the opening of the new Islamic Centre.
