HA Dhihdhoo Islamic Centre officially opened

The modern Islamic Centre developed in HA. Dhihdhoo by the government has been officially opened today. 

In a ceremony held before Friday prayers today, the Islamic Centre was inaugurated by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

DHIHDHOO ISLAMIC CENTER OPENING

The Islamic Centre can accommodate a prayer congregation of 1500 people. The centre is also equipped with a multi-purpose hall that can hold 400 people, and four classrooms with space in each for 30 students. 

The centre also has an Islamic library, an outreach centre of the National Centre for the Holy Quran, a seminar room and administrative offices.

RCC was contracted to develop the Islamic Centre in 2023 for MVR 50.8 million.

Dhihdhoo Islamic Centre's mosque is named after the November 3, 1988 martyr who hailed from Dhihdhoo, Shaheed Umar Ahmed.

The Islamic Ministry said that the mosque was named after him in recognition of the fact that until his martyrdom, he served as an employee of the Islamic Centre in capital Male'.

The Dhihdhoo Islamic Centre was opened today after all facilities had been installed, including an elevator for the convenience of those visiting. 

The first prayers held at Shaheed Umar Ahmed Mosque was today's Dhuhr prayer. The adhaan call for the prayer was made by Mohamed Halaf Shakeeb, Thiladhoo, HA. Dhihdhoo. Minister Shaheem led the Friday prayers as Imam. 

A banquet is being hosted on the island tonight to celebrate the opening of the new Islamic Centre.
