The first school dedicated to providing vocational education at the higher
secondary level has been officially opened today with 60 students.
The school, established at the Polytechnic, was
inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, at a ceremony
held there.
Admission to the school was offered to students who
completed Grade 10 in the last academic year or this year and who were under
the age of 18 as of December 31st of the previous year.

The Ministry of Education stated that students who
complete their studies at the Vocational High School will be eligible to enroll
in Diploma and Degree level courses at universities. The Ministry also noted
that students who choose to enter the workforce after completing their courses
will have direct employment opportunities.
The school will initially offer five programs. The
Vocational High School, which operates in a single session, will also teach the
subjects Islam and Dhivehi. The Minister stated that achieving an A* in
these programs and subjects will open up opportunities to qualify for the
President's Scholarship.
Minister Shafeeu highlighted that previously, students
were primarily limited to the academic pathway. This often created difficulties
for students with lower academic results to succeed in a school environment. In
contrast, providing the vocational pathway will allow students to pursue higher
education in the field of their choice.

Following the opening of the Vocational School in Malé,
the Minister announced plans to expand vocational education to the islands. As
part of the first phase of this expansion, R. Alifushi will soon begin offering
this training, utilizing the resources available on that island.
