Maldives Police Service has planned to hold a conference to discuss avenues of further strengthening their work.

The conference is scheduled for December 2 and 3.

This conference comes in the wake of recent developments that have cast doubt on the integrity of police operations and eroded public trust in the service.

Parliament's Public Accounts Committee is looking into allegations of corruption within the Police welfare company, POLCO, and other matters. As part of this, the committee has decided to recommend the suspension of Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen and six other senior ranking officers.

Meanwhile, a pre-engagement session of the conference has been scheduled for this morning. The pre-engagement session of the 'Local Policing Conference 2025' will be attended by Police Command, Directorate and Regional offices.

Commissioner Naveen, however, is currently out of the country on an official trip.

Officers named for suspension by the Committee

  1. Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen
  2. Superintendent of Police Ismail Shameem (Intel Head)
  3. Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Abdul Rahman
  4. Assistant Commissioner Moosa Ali
  5. Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Basheer
  6. Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Daud
  7. Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Rasheed

The stated purpose of the conference is to identify strategies for enhancing operational work and to draft a plan for implementation.

A briefing on drafting the paper on operational challenges will be given during today's pre-engagement session.

Regional commanders have also been directed to participate in today's session online.
