The foundation stone for the government's Waqf building in Hulhumalé was
laid today.
The foundation was laid this afternoon at a ceremony by
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali
Saeed. The building is being constructed on a 20,000 square foot plot behind
the Ooredoo Building block.

The construction of the building has been awarded to Rasheed
Carpentry and Construction (RCC) Company. The project was awarded on the 17th
of this month for MVR 244 million, with a deadline to complete the work within
two years.
The Islamic Ministry stated that the building's basement
will feature a parking area, and the ground floor will house a reception area
and additional parking facilities. Furthermore, the building will include a
floor designated for commercial purposes, as well as floors for offices, prayer
rooms, and meeting rooms.
The Ministry added that the second and eleventh floors
of the building are designated for multi-purpose halls that can be used for
various activities, and the rooftop will be an open terrace area.

In addition, the building will house a daycare center,
and the lifts installed will be designed to ensure easy access for people with
special needs.
The laying of the foundation for the Hulhumalé Waqf
building follows the laying of the foundation for the Malé Waqf building last
week. That building, located on the vacant plot next to Islanders Preschool,
facing Buruzu Magu, was also contracted to RCC Company.
The Waqf building project aligns with President Muizzu's
presidential pledge to further expand the Waqf Fund in the Maldives and
increase financial resources that benefit the Islamic sector.
The government has also decided to construct a
dedicated Holy Quran Waqf building in Malé.
Furthermore, the government has decided to implement
Waqf projects not only in the Malé area but also in Addu City, Gn. Fuvahmulah,
GDh. Thinadhoo, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, and GA. Vilingili.
