The man who sustained serious burn injuries in today's fire incident at the old STELCO powerhouse in Hulhumale' has been transferred to ADK Hospital for further treatment.
In a statement issued tonight, STELCO said that a 43 year old staff member sustained severe burn injuries across his body in an incident that occurred while he was working to fix an issue in a switch gear at the old Hulhumale' powerhouse.
The statement said that other staff at the site promptly helped secure medical treatment for him. After initial care at Hulhumale' Hospital, he has now been transferred to ADK Hospital for further treatment, STELCO confirmed.
STELCO stated that the man's condition is being closely monitored, and all possible assistance is being extended in coordination with his family.
STELCO also assured that they are looking into what caused the incident to occur, and necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
Police have also launched an independent investigation into the incident, STELCO stated, adding that the company is fully cooperating with the probe.
STELCO appealed to refrain from any actions that may cause further distress to the man's family, and to avoid spreading unconfirmed reports and speculation regarding the incident.
A Hulhumale' Hospital official earlier told Mihaaru News that the man has suffered third degree burns across his body.
