Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq has announced his bid for re-election to complete work commenced during the current term.

In a post on social media, Ismail said that he is going to contest in the upcoming local council elections with the aim of being re-elected to continue implementing current plans for the city's development.

"I am not yet done with my efforts towards the development of this city. To continue the work begun in a steady way, to commence newly planned initiatives, and to streamline administration, I wish to serve for an additional term," opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) member Ismail stated.

In his post, he outlined some of the work done for Fuvahmulah's development over the past four years of his mayorship.

This includes several programs promoting small and home-based businesses, launching a micro-finance scheme, securing free grants, as well as facilitating sale and marketing of Fuvahmulah-based products, Ismail wrote. In addition to this, religious awareness programs were conducted and special priority was given to mosque repairs and maintenance, the Mayor said.

"Relations were established and strengthened with foreign nations and various organizations, securing assistance from them. Notable among these are addressing waste management, sourcing medical equipment for the hospital and securing computer systems for schools. Many opportunities are also being received to present Fuvahmulah at international conferences and forums," Ismail said.
