Former Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Fayyaz Ismail has joined
the campaign activities of Ali Azim, who is contesting the Malé City Mayoral election on the MDP ticket.
Azim's campaign, named "Gadhakoh",
began on the 20th of this month near the Artificial Beach area.
As Fayyaz, who recently resigned as MDP Chairperson,
joins the efforts to garner support for Azim, a three-term MP for the Central
Henveiru constituency, individuals close to former President Mohamed Nasheed
are also actively campaigning for him.

Speaking at a meeting held this afternoon by Azim's
campaign team, Fayyaz stated that Ali Azim is the type of candidate who will
make MDP members feel the presence of an MDP Mayor.
During the launch event, Azim stated that the MDP is a
party built upon specific principles and has always worked to secure what the
people deserve.
Due to internal disagreements within the MDP, Azim
previously left the party and joined The Democrats. However, he rejoined the
MDP earlier this year.
In addition to Ali Azim, the other candidate campaigning
for the Mayoral seat on the MDP ticket is the current Mayor, Adam Azim. Adam
Azim secured the Mayoral seat in the by-election held after the former Mayor,
Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, resigned upon being elected to the Presidency.
