A bill has been introduced to Parliament seeking to declare the vandalizing of mosques as an act of terrorism.

North Galolhu constituency and MDP member Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) introduced the bill, in order to include "Damages to Mosques" in Article 4 (B), behind number 7 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act. The new article in the act states that if damages are done to mosques in order to obtain certain intentions, it can be considered an act of terrorism.

During the introduction of the bill, Ibrahim said that "it has become common for our 100 percent Muslim nation that our mosques are being damaged". He also said that these actions defile the sanctity of mosques, and it is important to include such actions within the bounds of acts of terrorism.

The top of the list includes causing major harm to a person physically. Next, it reads that inflicting harm or danger onto a person's life, excluding the individual committing the crime. Holding someone against their will, causing great damage to property and hijacking passengers or vehicles that transport goods are also classified as acts of terrorism in the act.

The act also states that inducing a situation where the public or people in the public have their health or lives be put in danger, damaging important urban resources or interrupting basic services are now acts of terrorism as well.
