State Electric Company, STELCO has concluded an electrician course conducted exclusively for women.

The course was open to all women aged 16 and above. It was carried out across a total of seven batches, with 116 participants successfully taking part.

Certificates were awarded to the participants who completed the course at a special ceremony today. The certificates were presented by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, STELCO Managing Director Ahmed Samah Rasheed, and the company's Deputy Managing Director Aishath Muzna.

The stated objective of the course was to encourage women to enter the electrical field and facilitate opportunities for them to work on par with men in the sector.

STELCO detailed that the course covered fundamental information on domestic electrical wiring, practical application methods, the required wiring materials, and instruction on installing common household electrical appliances. Furthermore, the curriculum included lessons on troubleshooting distribution board issues, safe usage of household electrical equipment, and methods to reduce electricity consumption.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed remarked that such courses, specifically designed to teach women how to handle basic electrical issues within the home, will bring about significant positive changes.

STELCO Managing Director Samah stated at the ceremony that training women in a traditionally male-dominated field will yield very favorable results. He added that this empowerment will enable women to learn electrical work independently, providing a potential source of income.
