Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has banned an infant formula after a decease-spreading bacteria was detected in it.
MFDA announced that Byheart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula is contaminated with clostridium botulinum bacteria.
MFDA stated that the World Health Organization's Food Safety Authorities Network has informed them that this bacteria has been detected b America's FDA in Byheart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula, which is produced in the USA. The formula has been recalled, with a ban on its sale and orders for disposal issued.
MFDA said that the clostridium botulinum bacteria causes botulism, a serious muscle-paralyzing illness.
As a safety measure, MFDA has placed a ban on import and sale of all batches of this brand.
