President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated last night that the 300 housing units to be built in Villimale' by Bank of Maldives (BML) will be made specially for residents of the island and for those who need housing the most.
Under Maldives Monetary Authority's (MMA) "Inclusive National Affordable Housing Scheme" regulation, the government has given away free plots to BML in order to build flats and sell them at affordable prices.
During last night's meeting with Villimale' residents on the island, the President said that their housing issues would be solved as well. He also pledged that even though 500 housing units were to be built, there is only enough space for 300 units.
President Muizzu stated that the 300 housing units will be built specially for those who are in need, and that additional housing unit projects will take place in Villimale'.

As per the President, land is being reclaimed in the Male' region with housing projects being started in order to find a permanent solution to the housing crisis. He said that land reclamation in Uthuru Thilafalhu will also begin before the year comes to an end.

President Muizzu went on to say that residents of Villimale' can apply for the 15,000 plots in Rasmale' that has been announced, and is known to be the biggest housing project by the current government. President Muizzu also said that they will expedite the process in giving the plots away.
The President said that he is working to fulfill his pledges to Villimale'. The biggest pledge he has made, the President said, is the 100 bed tertiary hospital, with the project currently underway with the aid of China.

Along with that, practical work for the road construction project is also underway, said President Muizzu, along with water and sewerage system upgrade works being conducted as well.
During the meeting at Villimale' last night, residents had shared their personal issues and issues to be solved in Villimale' to the President. The meeting, which was broadcasted live across the nation, saw the President respond by saying that each of those issues would be addressed and looked into.

President Muizzu visited Villimale' residents last night after he had stated that he was going to visit residents and merchants in all districts of Male' and Hulhumale' starting this week during the ceremony held at the Social Center last Monday to mark two years of the current government's term.
During the ceremony, President Muizzu said that he has visited all island councils and the island residents within the last two years, and that next is Male', along with various classes of businessmen and businesswomen.
As per the President, he will visit residents in all Male' districts separately from this week onward. He also said that if time permits, he will try and conduct two visits in one week.
