An agreement was signed today between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia to
enhance cooperation in the judicial sector.
The agreement was signed between the Supreme Court of
the Maldives and the Ministry of Justice of Saudi Arabia during the
International Judicial Conference taking place in Riyadh, the Saudi capital.
Representing the Maldives, the agreement was signed by Chief Justice Abdulla
Saeed, and on behalf of the Saudi government, it was signed by Justice Minister
Dr. Walid Al Samaani.
The Supreme Court stated that the agreement, signed for
a duration of five years, will strengthen legal and administrative procedures
related to the judicial sector. Furthermore, it will develop and enhance the
professionalism and competency of judges and those working in the judiciary.
Under the agreement, the two nations will also share
information and experience related to judicial procedures, systems, and international
best practices.
The Supreme Court added that the agreement facilitates
the sharing of expertise and skills through technical conferences, training
programs, and consultative meetings.
This marks the first agreement made by the
Maldivian judiciary with the judicial sector of an Islamic nation.
