High Court Judge Mohamed Faisal has resigned.

The High Court confirmed his resignation today. However, no reason for his decision was disclosed.

Faisal's resignation comes at a time when the Judicial Service Commission has launched a disciplinary investigation against him and a number of other High Court judges. He has also faced criticism and allegations on social media over the past two days.

JSC had previously endorsed his appointment as Chief Judge of the High Court, but the post remained unconfirmed for months.

He was the interim head of the High Court in the meantime, but resigned from this position as well last week. Upon his resignation, Judge Abdulla Jameel Moosa was appointed to lead the High Court.

The current longest-serving judge at the High Court, Judge Mohamed Niyaz has also approached the JSC seeking retirement.

While the JSC has decided to accept the retirement, they are also conducting investigations into five separate disciplinary cases against him. These cases have remained pending over a long period of time, with the JSC previously having decided there are no disciplinary violations involved.

Other High Court judges the JSC is presently investigating include Judge Hussain Mazeed, Judge Fathimath Faruheeza and Judge Dheebanaaz Fahmy. These three judges were appointed to the High Court during the previous administration.
