The Tourism Ministry has announced they are looking for a company to develop and operate a tourist resort under the Halal Tourism Model under the designated islands and lagoons to be rented out on the basis of tender for tourism development.
As per the announcement regarding interested parties having to submit bids, the islands that will be developed under the Halal Tourism Model into tourist resorts are Haa Alifu. Beenaafushi, Haa Alifu. Kan'daalifinolhu, Haa Dhaalu. Plot of Lagoon from Makunudhoo Faru, Shaviyani Fushifaru and Laamu Fonagaadhoo.
The ministry said that interested parties are to participate in the online information to be held on 08th December 2025 and 05th January 2026. To join the information sessions, interested parties are to send an email with their name, email address and phone number to [email protected] one day before the sessions are held.
The deadline for bid submission is 3rd February 2026, 9:00am.

- Haa Alifu. Beenaafushi - 2.21 hectares with a minimum of 100 beds (USD 392,040)
- Haa Alifu. Kan'daalifinolhu - 5 hectares with a minimum of 100 beds (USD 392,040)
- Haa Dhaalu. Plot of Lagoon from Makunudhoo Faru - 200 hectares with a minimum of 150 beds (USD 1.2 million)
- Shaviyani Fushifaru - 4.34 hectares with a minimum of 100 beds (USD 234,360)
- Laamu Fonagaadhoo - 8.18 hectares with a minimum of 100 beds (USD 588,960)
This past June saw an announcement regarding the search for a company to operate four of the five aforementioned islands under the Halal Tourism Model. The announcement has been made once again due to a lack of response.
Halal tourism development of Th. Maagulhi was also announced in the past.
As per the announcement, no alcohol and pork transactions are to take place at halal tourism islands, with halal ingredients being used for food and drink as well.
Islands are to have places related to Islam, with places such as mosques having to be made as the most iconic buildings on the island.
